Now, on to corduroys…
Finding the right pair of corduroy pants proved to be harder than I imagined. There wasn’t much selection and sizing online, and I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a new style I was “trying out.” While I knew I loved the idea of corduroys, I’ve always been hesitant about buying bottoms that aren’t jeans because there’s a chance they won’t suit my life. The last thing I ever want is to buy something that looks good but can’t be worn often.
Since I had an Aritzia store credit from the Babaton Pleated Corduroy Pants I returned, I decided to pop into the store one night while we were waiting for our dinner reservations. The older I get, the less I shop at Aritzia as I find most of their clothes skew younger. If I’m going there, it’s mostly for their jeans and pants because I can find the right lengths for my 5’2” height and avoid getting them hemmed.
The store had one pair of corduroys in my size: the TNA Ripcord Corduroy Pant. To be honest, I had zero expectations and was surprised by how much I liked them on. They fit a little loose with a wide leg and offer the perfect balance of looking relaxed and still polished. I’m linking them here because they’re on sale right now, but I highly encourage you to actually go to the store to try them on if you can because they’re final sale.
After having them for a few weeks, I have to say there’s definitely something about corduroys that feel effortless, and I think it’s because they work so well with the rest of your wardrobe. I challenged myself to not buy anything new to wear with them and only rely on the clothes I already have. It’s actually been refreshing to have a new style of pants in rotation—it brings out something different in tops I’ve been wearing for a while.
If you’re curious about corduroys, here are a few ideas of how I’ve worn them or plan to wear them with pieces you could probably find in your closet (I’ve linked a few similar options in case, since most of the tops I’m wearing below are older.)
White crewneck shirt with an orange (or red) sweater

I love this colour combo of white, orange and brown. The sweater is old H&M, but I think any bright colour would do here, especially red, to break up the neutrals.
Grey cardigan

I’ve had this grey boxy cardigan from Aritzia for years and have started re-wearing it again with black trousers and now these cords. An example of how some old tops have found new life by pairing them with different pants.
Navy sweater

I bought my son a navy sweater and cords (these ones - so cute!) for Christmas and realized I wanted the exact same outfit for me. Navy and cords make a perfect match, in my opinion.
Striped shirt

Another no-brainer: pairing the pants with a basic striped shirt. Added a hat, earrings and my everyday tote bag.
Black cardigan

For a sleeker look, I wore a buttoned-up black cardigan tucked into the corduroys for dinner with girlfriends. Everything (cardigan, pointed-toe boots and Saint Laurent small Kate bag) is old, except for the cords.
Cream V-neck sweater

My favourite option—something I’d wear to a nice lunch or dinner: the cords with a cream V-neck sweater, brown belt (similar here), statement earrings, off-white glove boots and clutch. My mom, who owns more designer bags than me, would be pleased I’m wearing this Mansur Gavriel mini cloud clutch, which she “donated” to me.
White tank and black blazer

Again, the cords bring out something different to the usual blazer and tee combo. A more laid-back look, perhaps? Definitely a comfier option than wearing jeans.
If you’re looking for other options for corduroy pants, I mentioned a few in my previous post.
