As I write this, I’m fully aware that Fall is already slipping away, but I’m holding on to it as long as possible. There’s so much to love about getting dressed right now: the colours, cozy knits and chic outerwear. Most of all, it’s the ease of putting together an outfit and not needing to bundle up in puffy jackets, winter boots, hats, etc., before heading out the door, which will be our reality soon enough.
Recently, I had to take new photos for my website (which I’m working on updating), and I used it as an excuse to get dressed up since it’s not something I get to do every day working from home. I brought some of my favourite Fall pieces to wear and was able to sneak in some outfit shots, knowing I wanted to write about them.
This season has really put me in the mood to wear shades of brown, cream and black and mix together lighter pieces with heavier fabrics. Here are some of my most-loved pieces right now.
OAK + FORT Crewneck Sweater in Brown
Is brown the new black? I saw someone post this the other day, and I have to say I might agree. Almost everything I’ve wanted lately has been brown—not black—which is out of character for me.

This crewneck is a bit of a lighter brown than I wanted, but it’s a nice oversized fit (I sized down, btw). I usually find OAK + FORT sweaters to be pretty good quality at a decent price point. They feel comfortable, look good on, and the pilling after a while isn’t as bad compared to other sweaters I own.
OAK + FORT Maxi Dress with Open Back in Pelican
So, I admit I got this dress specifically for my photos, but… I could also picture myself wearing it throughout different seasons. In the Fall and Winter with knee-high boots and my brown sweater above. Or a black cardigan. Or my oversized Zara blazer.

When I saw the dress, it immediately gave me minimal, elegant, The Row vibes. The only thing I wasn’t sure about was the open back, but after trying it on, I didn’t find it too much at all. It falls and moves so nicely and the length is great with heels, although I’m considering getting it hemmed just a touch, so I’m not tripping over myself when I want to wear it with ballet flats.
Babaton Hackney Leather Belt in Brown
One accessory I definitely wanted to add to my wardrobe this season: a brown belt. While I’ve been obsessing over the Khaite Bambi Belt and the YSL Monogramme suede belt, I had to ask myself, “Do I really need a designer belt?” My mind and bank account said “no.”

I found some great options (100% genuine leather at a fraction of the cost) at Artizia, including this Babaton Hackney Leather Belt. The brown is dark and rich, making it easy to style with multiple outfits. I’ve been really happy with the belt and have learned how much one small accessory can make a difference and add some interest to your outfit.
OAK + FORT Oversized Trench Coat
One of my wardrobe staples for Spring and Fall for the last two years has been this trench coat in the colour Brindle. It’s the first piece I ever bought from OAK + FORT and turned me into a fan of the brand.

I bought it right before a weekend trip to New York City, and the first time I wore it, my husband and I were on the plane sipping complimentary wine when he spilled his glass all over my new trench. Thankfully, it was white wine and the trench is machine washable (!), which is another reason I love it. I’ve worn it dressed up and dressed down (with leggings and a tank), and either way, it’s so good.
More Fall inspiration
I’m on the hunt for a sweater in the same rich shade as this vintage Ralph Lauren chocolate knit top:
Although I don’t wear eye shadow often, the Merit solo shadow in Vachetta has piqued my interest. After wearing Merit products for over a year now, I’ve learned they can do no wrong.
SKIMS can also do no wrong in my books. I’ve had my eye on this Fits Everybody Corded Lace Scoop Bralette in Bronze:
Looks I’d love to re-create: @kelseymerritt / @linhniller / @alexlysko / @alisontoby / @creativeecho / @mimixn
Can’t get over these Reformation Remy Knee Boots in Chestnut:
If you caught Sporty & Rich’s Essentials Drop last month, you might’ve noticed the campaign was inspired by the iconic photographs of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr out-and-about in New York City. My introduction to Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s style was from a young age when my mom was obsessed with her and Jackie Kennedy (we had coffee table books about the Kennedy family all over the house.)
I finally understand and appreciate her fascination with their style, and love that CBK’s, in particular, is having quite the renaissance this year.
recently wrote a piece about her style, and the New York Times just published an article touting her “the muse of the season.”
